In One Accord

Below is but a small measure of revelation that my father had received from the Lord. I hope this will be a blessing to you. All that is written below are the words of my father.

In One Accord
In loving memory of my father

Thus all the work that Solomon made for the house of the LORD was finished: and Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated; and the silver, and the gold, and all the instruments, put he among the treasures of the house of God.
2 Chronicles 5:1

11 And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place: (for all the priests that were present were sanctified, and did not then wait by course:
12 Also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, being arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets:)
13 It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For He is good; for His mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;
14 So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God. 2 Chronicles 5:11-14

Asaph: he that gathered or removed reproach; of the Gershon family; called a seer by David.

Heman: faithful, grandson of Samuel, came from the family of Kohath; called David's seer in the matters of God.

Jeduthun: to confess or give thanks; one who gives praise; of the family of Merari.

1 Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the house.
2 And the priests could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD'S house.
3 And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the LORD, saying, For He is good; for His mercy endureth for ever. 2 Chronicles 7:1-3

2 Chronicles, Chapter 6, then records the prayer of Solomon: prayers, supplications, intercessions, giving of thanks. Also in

1 Timothy 2:1, I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

Moreover Hezekiah the king and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praise unto the LORD with the words of David, and of Asaph the seer. And they sang praises with gladness, and they bowed their heads and worshipped.
2 Chronicles 29:30

Note the progression from 2 Chronicles 5:14 to Chronicles 7:2. Why?

Now let us look at the New Testament counterpart.

The phrase "with one accord" occurs twelve times in the New Testament, eleven times in the book of Acts. (Acts 1:14, Acts 2:1, Acts 2:46, Acts 4:24, Acts 5:12, Acts 7:57, Acts 8:6, Acts 12:20, Acts 15:25, Acts 18:12, and Acts 19:29.), and once in Romans (Romans 15:6).

Some folks can be in one accord concerning many things. For example, we could all be in one accord that we all like ice cream. In four separate verses, the people were in one accord to kill Stephen or Paul.

57 Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, Acts 7:57

12 And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat, Acts 18:12

In two verses, Acts 8:6 and Acts 15:25, the people were in one accord to take a specific action.

Of much great significance are the following five verses, which state that the early Christians were in one accord.

14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren. Acts 1:14

1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. Acts 2:1

46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
Acts 2:46

24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is: Acts 4:24

12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch. Acts 5:12

Note that none of the above five verses state what the people were in one accord about. The only verse which states why the early Christians were in one accord is the following.

5 Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:
6 That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 15:5-6

In Verse 6, above, "with one mind" is the same Greek text as "in one accord." So the early believers were in one accord to glorify God. In other words, they had no thought for themselves or their well being. They simply wanted the Lord to have His way such that the Father might be glorified.

Now, what does it mean to be in one accord to glorify God? Or, how do we glorify God? There is no better example than that of Jesus, when He walked the face of the earth.

1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify Thee:
2 As Thou hast given Him power over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as Thou hast given Him.
3 And this is life eternal, that they might know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent.
4 I have glorified Thee on the earth: I have finished the work which Thou gavest Me to do.
5 And now, O Father, glorify Thou Me with Thine own Self with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was. John 17:1-5

Please note the colon in Verse 4, above. A colon in Scripture always means that what follows the colon explains or defines that which preceded. Therefore, how did Jesus glorify the Father on earth? by finishing the work which the Father gave to Him.

30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, He said, It is finished: and He bowed His head, and gave up the ghost. John 19:30

In the verse above, Jesus said, "It is finished." What was finished? The work on earth that the Father had given Him to do.

What was the result of the early Church being in one accord?

33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. Acts 4:33

The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts. Haggai 2:9
